Course Description

This course of study supports the value of a learned laity. It will provide basic training for people who desire to serve the church more fully, either as a lay minister or as a lay leader.

Course Objectives

  • Assists in the spiritual development of individuals and enhance knowledge in biblical knowledge, practical theology, worship, ethics and polity, pastoral care, Christian education and others.
  • To provide for the local church by developing the talents and abilities of the individual doing lay ministry.
  • Spiritual development for individuals serving as lay ministers, the program seeks to enable the effective lay ministry to function in their gifting.

Our Aim

To help develop emerging and current ministers/leaders for high-impact ministry in their churches. While this certainly includes staff, Ephesians 4:7–16 makes it clear that developing laity is key.

When submitting academic work, you are expected to acknowledge all sources of information and cite the scholarship of any authors contributing to their work.

Course Methods

  • This program is a unique leadership-training approach for lay leaders in particular.
  • Workbook manual assigned.  Lectures, class participation, class presentations, and practicum will be required.
  • Speech assignment or field work participation will conclude this course expectations.
  • Students will be asked to evaluate the lecture at the end of semester.

  • Week One: Pastoral Responsibility; The call to the Pastoral ministry
  • Week Two: The Individual that God uses in Pastoral Ministry
  • Weeks Three & Four: The Personal Disciplines of Pastoral Ministry
  • Weeks Five & Six: The Public Functions of Pastoral Ministry
  • Weeks Seven, Eight & Nine: Other Functions of Pastoral Ministry
  • Week Ten: Revision and pop quiz
  • Week Eleven: Speech Assignment
  • Week Twelve: students’ Presentations
  • Week Thirteen: Exam and Term paper (If Applicable)
